Sunday (February 2, 2025), in Reno, Nevada, agents of the DEA Los Angeles field division, of the regional office of Reno, helped the federal partners to locate an individual, who is citizen of Mexico, who was Ordered by an immigration judge on January 31, 2024. During a multi-agencies operation, the DEA agents helped locate the individual. The subject is an alleged member of Gang by Sureno Gang Set. He underwent several convictions for having led under the influence (DUI) and escape the arrest. This individual will remain in police custody while waiting for withdrawal to Mexico.

Telemundo Reno was able to obtain videos from the son of a man who was held by immigration agents in place on Sunday February 2, 2025. They spoke directly with the family and obtained their testimony.

They ask that we do not reveal their identity because of their current status.

“On February 3, it was only another Sunday,” said a young Hispanic who has lived with his immigrant family for more than 20 years in Parent. It was around 7 am when they noticed several cars parked outside their house and it seemed a little suspicious, but they did not pay a lot of attention. The father said at 9 a.m., he noticed that the fence of the house had been damaged by strong winds during the night. It was then that M decided to repair the fence with the help of his son. Around 10 am, family members tell us that they saw what looked like the application of the law coming out of their cars and running to his father and ordered them to put their hands.

The family says that their father was handcuffed when he tried to run to his house. It was then that his mobile phone released and started recording the incident. He was the only one to record the incident. Me says he was afraid because the agents pointed their weapons over him.

In the video obtained by Telemundo Reno, you can see the agents with the DEA logo on their uniforms. You can hear family members ask for the police where they took it and why, and they replied: “He has an expulsion order.” With that, they quickly left with M’s father inside the car.

Telemundo arrived after the incident – speaking with the detainee’s family who asked to remain anonymous because of their immigration status. The family shared a recorded phone call they had with the detention center where the authorities told them that the father of it had transferred me well to a detention center in Washoe, where they said they were holding it without ‘Office of surety, and that it was the instructions they received from Ice, without more details.

We contacted ICE and the DEA to ask questions about this incident and they told us that they had actually carried out operations in northern Nevada on Sunday, February 2, the prisoners were immigrants with expulsion orders, or With condemnations of which or a file of domestic violence. The DEA generally performs drugs related to drugs, but DEA officials say they are currently collaborating with ice on immigration operations.

Reno police maintained themselves at Telemundo Reno and said that they were not aware of these operations in Reno and that they had not been contacted by Ice to request their collaboration.

As we mentioned earlier, the Police of Reno said that their position concerning the application of immigration should not be involved because their work is not linked to this question, unless Ice asked them to collaborate in a criminal case, in which case they must receive the authorization of the police chief to get involved. They also do not ask for drivers, proof of legality in the country.

Many members of the Reno migrant community have expressed their fear and perplexity against such incidents because they fear that they can also be expelled.

Washoe’s sheriff has not commented on these incidents and we are waiting for his answer after having contacted it.
