Search teams recover body of second person missing in Lions Bay landslide – British Columbia

RCMP and the Village of Lions Bay both confirm search teams have found the body of the second person missing after their home was swept away by a landslide.

In a letter to the community, Lions Bay Mayor Ken Berry says Barbara Enns’ remains were found Dec. 21 “following an intense, coordinated and skilled search.”

Search teams found David Enns’ body on December 15, a day after the landing.

“This is a profound loss for family, friends, neighbors and all residents of the Village of Lions Bay,” Berry said.

Landslide Risk Monitoring Concern in British Columbia


The Dec. 14 mudslide sent a torrent of debris, trees and mud onto the Sea To Sky Highway, closing the road for nearly 24 hours.

An evacuation order remains in effect for two homes on Goldenrod Avenue. Three properties on Brunswick Beach Road also remain on evacuation alert.

The village’s local state of emergency, declared on December 15, remains in effect.
