Following an argument where Ravindra Jadeja was accused by members of the Australian media of failing to answer questions in English, a similar tone was maintained for Deep Akashwho was sent on Sunday to meet the media. Akash Deep is not a native English speaker so could not answer questions in English, but Australian media outlet Channel 7 has now suggested it may have been a “message” from the Indian camp. In fact, the channel said Indian journalists did not help Australian journalists with their questions either.

According to a report from Channel 7they had forwarded a question regarding the tension of the press conference to Akash Deep via an Indian journalist. However, the Indian journalist mentioned that he was not comfortable asking this question and then asked a completely different question to Akash Deep.

The incident follows events on Saturday, when all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja allegedly showed up late for the press meet, before answering questions only in Hindi.

In the aftermath of the incident, an argument broke out between Australian media and Indian journalists on social media.

“There’s probably a few things going on that haven’t gone well in their (Indian) camp. It’s probably just mind games given the enormity of the series,” said the former Australian cricketer and current Channel 7 commentator. Simon Katich.

Channel 7 said “the message to the Australian media was very clear” following the decision to send Akash Deep to attend questions.

Relations between the Australian media and Indian players have turned frosty in recent days, with things starting when stalwart India Virat Kohli was confronted by an Australian media outlet for apparently capturing videos and photos of his family.

The incidents reportedly led to the cancellation of a T20 friendly match which was to be played between members of the Australian and Indian media and which had been organized by Cricket Australia.
