GIMPA graduates must be agents of positive change

Justice Barbara Frances Ackah-Yensu, a Justice of the Supreme Court, has urged graduates of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) to serve as agents of positive change in Ghana and beyond.

She said the graduates were equipped to excel professionally and justify the investment put into them.

Justice Ackah-Yensu gave his opinion to the 24th Congregation of the Institute, from undergraduate to graduate levels.

The graduates were from the School of Public Service and Governance, Gimpa Law School and the School of Technology, Social Sciences and Commerce.

The ceremony had the theme: “Strengthening partnerships for impact in higher education”.

“Your hard work, resilience and determination have brought you to this important milestone.

“You have overcome challenges and seized opportunities, embodying the values of excellence and perseverance that this distinguished institution represents,” she said.

Institutions of higher education, she said, are called upon not only to impact knowledge, but also to cultivate fruitful collaborations that prepare students to thrive in a rapidly changing global landscape.

She said strengthening partnerships to make an impact in higher education in Africa was a crucial strategy to address challenges and harness opportunities in higher education across the continent.

“To foster fruitful collaborations, our universities are encouraged to establish research networks across Africa to address common challenges such as climate change, public health and technology adoption,” she said. .

Justice Acqah Yensu called on universities to involve the private sector to align study programs with market demands, fund research and provide internship opportunities for students to flourish.

The Supreme Court judge said forming alliances with international universities would help exchange knowledge, share resources and attract funding.

Other areas of collaboration, she highlighted, include capacity building, student exchanges, infrastructure sharing, technological and digital transformation, data sharing and community engagement.

These partnerships have not only enriched the academic environment, but also contributed to the institution’s status as a center of excellence.

“GIMPA is a shining example of the potential of partnerships in higher education. In its schools and programs, the Institute has demonstrated its commitment to fostering connections that generate impact,” she said.

She encouraged the graduates to carry forward the knowledge, skills and values acquired as they embarked on the next chapter of their lives.

Professor Samuel Kwaku Bonsu, Rector of GIMPA, commended the council members for their dedication, commitment to GIMPA and the passion that has led to the success of the institution.

He said GIMPA intended to establish an alumni office early next year to maintain their contacts and invite them to events within the Institute.

Mr. Lateef Agyei-Wiredu won the Best Student Award from the School of Public Service and Governance.

He graduated with a master’s degree in public administration with a grade of 3.81.
