Dolomites search resumes for missing British hiker

The search for a second British climber who has been missing for 10 days in the Dolomites has resumed, Italian authorities have confirmed.

Aziz Ziriat, 36, and Samuel Harris, 35, from London, had not been heard from since January 1. The alarm was raised after the pair failed to check in for their flight home on January 6.

On Wednesday, rescue teams announced that they had found a body “unfortunately lifeless, buried under the snow”, which would be that of Mr. Harris.

At first light on Saturday, more than 80 members of Alpine Rescue personnel, Guardia di Finanza Rescue, carabinieri and local firefighters resumed the search.

In a statement on Friday, Italian rescue services said searches where Mr Harris’ suspected body was found did not lead to the discovery of Mr Ziriat.

Thick fog forced search operations to stop Friday afternoon.

Mr. Harris was found on Wednesday under the snow at the foot of a rock face on the Carè Alto mountain, near Trento.

The cause of his death is unclear, but one possible reason cited by authorities was a fall “from above.”
