MP Stalin’s party passes resolution against Amit Shah following Ambedkar’s remark

The executive committee meeting of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, chaired by party president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MP Stalin, adopted 12 resolutions on Sunday. The first resolution condemned the Minister of the Interior Amit Shah on his recent remarks on BR Ambedkar in Parliament. The resolution alleged that the senior BJP leader had insulted Ambedkar.

“It is unfortunate that the Home Minister of the country spoke in such a derogatory manner inside the temple of democracy. The executive committee believes that the drama staged by the BJP inside and outside outside Parliament to distract attention from the speech of the Minister of the Interior is extremely comical,” the resolution states.

Amit Shah on December 17 slammed the Congress, saying it had become a “fashion” for the party to frequently invoke Ambedkar’s name. Shah had said, “It has now become a fashion – Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. If they had taken God’s name that many times, they would have earned a place in heaven for seven lifetimes.”

Shah’s comments on Ambedkar led to massive protests from opposition parties demanding his resignation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, however, defended Amit Shah’s remarks and said that the Home Minister had exposed the Congress’s dark history of insults to Ambedkar, after which they were clearly piqued and stunned by the facts that he presented.

In a series of posts on X, Prime Minister Modi said the Congress was in power for years but did nothing to empower the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities.
