NEW YORK– A task force of FBI agents and New York City police detectives spoke with Luigi Mangione’s mother a day before his arrest in Pennsylvania and named a suspect in the shooting death of the CEO United Healthcare Brian Thompson, law enforcement sources told ABC News.

The conversation followed a tip the FBI received from San Francisco police, where Mangione’s mother filed a missing report for her son on November 18.

The San Francisco Police Department’s tip was based on physical appearance, and Mangione’s mother, in her conversation with the Joint Violent Crimes Task Force last Sunday, indicated that the person in the released surveillance photos by the New York Police Department could be his son, the sources said.

The task force was still working on information provided by the mother and SFPD when Mangione was spotted Monday at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
