How to Send Web Articles to Your Kindle to Read Later

Amazon is building its Kindle to be as simple and easy to use as possible, but once you start digging into these e-readers you discover more and more features. This includes the lesser known option of downloading articles from the Internet.

It’s a great way to catch up on all that online reading you never got to because you can go through your backlog of unread articles without the distractions of flashing ads, social media, breaking news and all the stay.

There are different ways to configure this, so you can choose the one that best suits your situation and preferences. Then, when you’re done viewing the web content, you can return to your eBooks.

Send to Kindle

Amazon has an official Send to Kindle tool that you can find on the internet: Sign in with the same Amazon account you use on your Kindle, and you can simply drag and drop the files or select them from your computer. After confirming the download, they will appear on your Kindle in a few moments.

Supported file types include PDF, DOCX, HTML, and plain text, so if you want, you can get web articles in any of these formats ready for download. Web pages can be printed to PDF on Windows and macOS (just choose PDF instead of a printer), and any web browser will be able to save the page’s HTML for you.

To make this even easier, you can install the Kindle Browser Extension in Google Chrome (and other Chromium-based browsers, such as Microsoft Edge). This means you can send web articles to your Kindle with just a few clicks, but it also reformats the page you’re viewing to make it easier to read on your e-reader.

Services to read later

Some of the most popular read-later services on the web support Kindle syncing. So you can save articles to these services, removing any distracting page extras along the way (like ads and navigation bars), before transferring them elsewhere. on your Kindle and read them at your leisure.

If you use Poached to store your item queue, then see P2K (Pocket-to-Kindle). The utility gives you a good degree of control over the frequency of item delivery and the types of items delivered: you can send five items per week for free, and beyond that you have to pay for a premium account (starting from to $3 per month).

Another service to read later, Instapapercomes with built-in Kindle integration, but only if you pay for the premium service, which costs $6 per month. Dive into your Instapaper account settings to stream articles to your Kindle or use the official site. Instapaper extension for Google Chrome (and other Chromium-based browsers), which can send articles with just a few clicks.

If the options above don’t really work for your setup, try an online search that ends with “…to Kindle.” You can transfer articles and other documents from most services and platforms to your Amazon e-reader. Need to transfer articles from your phone to your Kindle, for example? Push to Kindle is available for Android And iOS (as well as an extension for popular desktop browsers).

You can send up to 10 articles per month to your Kindle for free, and if you need more than that, you can sign up for a premium tier for $3 per month. Push to Kindle does a good job of removing all the formatting that comes with web articles, and the articles also support highlighting and note-taking on your Kindle.

Another option worthy of your consideration is KTool. Like Push to Kindle, it works on desktop and mobile, and also supports newsletters. So you can clear out your inbox a bit by sending emails to your Kindle to read later. Pricing for KTool starts at $3 per month, but you can try it free for a week first to decide if it gives you value for your money.
