26 Michigan State Park Campgrounds With Closures, Construction Delays In 2025

Campgrounds on Michigan’s two peninsulas and touching all five Great Lakes are receiving some well-deserved maintenance. As a result, more than two dozen state-run campgrounds will have their camping seasons delayed or closed in 2025.

The Department of Natural Resources received an unprecedented amount of funding under the American Rescue Plan Act. The federal dollars, allocated by the state Legislature and approved by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in 2022, gave the department’s budget a major boost of $273 million.

All project funds must be accounted for by the end of 2026, giving the DNR a tight deadline to complete these repairs and upgrades.
