In response to this yellow warning, the Royal Automobile Club (RAC) is advising drivers to avoid making unnecessary journeys during this period.

Jim Dale, the weather expert from British Weather Services, said in a statement: “New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Eve could not only be windy, but also snowy… in Scotland and the north of England, and perhaps even a little further. south.”

He added: “This is an early warning that we may well face dangerous weather conditions in 2025.”

Jim further added, “I maintain a caveat, it may not be a certainty, but nonetheless, with people traveling over the New Year, it’s worth keeping your finger on the pulse, as it could well be quite severe in terms of wind and snow side of things.”

In addition to cold weather, strong winds are expected to cause disruptions over New Year’s Eve.

These winds could create snowdrifts, especially on higher ground.
