Incident commander Joe Thompson said: “The driver exited the EP and then arrived at Hollinsgate and then noticed smoke coming from the air vents of his van.

“He stopped on the side of the road, on the paved area. He got out to investigate and as he opened the hood he noticed the fire and obviously it grew.

“When we got here, about 50 percent of the van was involved in a fire and we just need to manage it safely and get it under control.”

He also thanked West Mercia Police for acting quickly and closing the road so firefighters could get to work and prevent the fire from getting out of control.
