Patience is set in York where an autistic archivist is thrust into the world of crime when a detective discovers her unique talents.

Laura Fraser and Ella Maisy Purvis lead the cast of the new crime thriller.

Viewers watched the new duo attempt to connect the dots after a man was found dead and they suspect foul play is involved.

But the storyline left fans disappointed as they called Patience a “carbon copy” of French. drama Astrid.

Taking to social media, one fan gushed: “#Patience is a copy of the French drama, which is amazing. Astrid, Murder in Paris. Even though #Patience is okay, it’s far from the original . Not very inventive from @Channel4”.

A second wrote: “Ah, I see Channel 4 are trying to do a pale imitation of the superb French #AstridAndRaphaelle with #Patience. I think I’ll give it up. Can’t think of your own ideas?”

“#Patience on Channel 4 has started well but it seems very similar to French drama #WalterPresents #Astrid. We’ll stick with that for the York setting,” said a third.

While the fourth fumed: “Did Channel 4’s #Patience literally plagiarize the plot of #Astrid episode 1 and somehow the character herself? Or Am I crazy?”

However, the series is actually an adaptation of the original hit French series Astrid et Raphaelle and is a co-production of JLA Productions.

Astrid: Murder in Paris is also available on Channel 4 and starred Sara Mortensen and Lola Dewaere.

Channel 4’s best competing shows

Channel 4 has an impressive number of competing shows, but which are really the best?

Four in a bed

  • Reality TV show Four in a bed was broadcast on Channel 4 since 2010. It follows four couples who take turns staying in B&Bs and hotels, evaluating their stays along the way. Couples whose establishment has been voted best value for money are winners.

Come have dinner with me

  • Come have dinner with me has been staple British viewing since 2005, providing some scandalous TV moments over the years. Like Four in a Bed, the series moves to different properties as it follows four contestants as they each host a (supposedly) gourmet dinner for each other. After each dinner, guests rate the host out of 10, with the winner revealed at the finale party.

The Great British Pastry

  • Another national treasure, The Great British Pastry welcomes a group of 12 amateur bakers to test their culinary skills with Paul Hollywood And Prue Leith judge their efforts. One contestant is eliminated each week until the final three face off in the final week.

Bake: the professionals

  • Bake: the professionals gives a twist to GBBO, pitting two teams of professional pastry chefs against each other in each episode. It’s up to judges Benoit Blin and Cherish Finden to determine who has what it takes to advance to the finals.
