Derby County: conceding a goal from their own half is “horrible” – Paul Warne

Derby County boss Paul Warne says his team don’t deserve to start 2025 with a 4-2 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday – which meant conceding a goal from their own half.

Josh Windass’ incredible strike put the Owls 2-0 up just after the hour mark.

“It remains one of the most horrible moments in a football manager’s life, when he strikes and you think ‘oh my God, he’s got a good chance’. And he was an incredible talent – I don’t I don’t want to congratulate the naysayers, but it was,” Warne told BBC Radio Derby.

“But I still don’t think it took the game away from us.

“I’m frustrated with the score and I’m especially disappointed with the third goal, because that’s when the game gets away from you a little bit.

“I don’t regret anything we did tactically, I regret the way we started the game. And after the first 10 or 15 minutes I thought we progressed very well in the match and on the chances we we are created, we score two away goals I came home but left with nothing But I still think we should have had four or five – that’s my honest truth.

“I’m not that disappointed, I just don’t think we deserved a loss today.”
