AMD’s highly anticipated Ryzen 7 9800X3D gaming processor goes official

Officially, AMD will start selling the Ryzen 9000X3D family on November 7as he already said. But now we know what AMD will sell: the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, a 120W part, for $479.

AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D follows the launch of Ryzen 7000X3D family early 2023. At the time, AMD positioned the chip as a gaming monster, using the first-generation V-cache lineup to assist games that needed to repeatedly access the same information, over and over again. Like our Ryzen 7950X3D review showed it, it bore fruit.

Power was less important at the time: the Ryzen 7000X3D family only consumed 120W, a fact whose importance grew as Intel released its 13th and 14th generation Core components, which consumed much more energy. Qualcomm then focused on low consumption with its Snapdragon X Elite mobile chips. Finally, Intel Arrow Lake Desktop Processors had promised huge power gains – but failed to deliver. Now, energy consumption is a key metric.

AMD promises that the Ryzen 7 9800X3D will deliver 8% faster gaming FPS improvement than the Ryzen 7800X3D, and will deliver on average 20% more performance compared to the new Intel Core Ultra 9 285K (which ended up being Slow down than its predecessors in the field of video games). AMD also fully unlocks the 9800X3D, allowing it to be treated as a traditional gaming CPU and overclocked. Note that AMD still uses hyperthreading as well, unlike Intel.

Add in AMD’s Zen 5 architecture, and AMD believes it has created a next-generation powerhouse. We will soon know more about what he achieved.
