Tyson Fury backed his new job immediately after announcing his boxing retirement | Boxing | Sport

Tyson Fury has been backed to become a boxing promoter after announcing his surprise retirement from the sport. Frank Warren, Gypsy King’s co-promoter, would welcome Fury into a role at Queensbury Promotions.

The 36-year-old confirmed on social media that he is stepping away from the ring. He told his fans: “I would like to announce my retirement from boxing.

“It’s been great. I’ve loved every minute of it and I’ll end with this: Dick Turpin wore a mask.”

Warren believes Fury has more to give to boxing and doesn’t want him to give up on the sport completely. He says the duo would have a “good run” if Fury joined Queensbury Promotions.

“I would have no problem with him getting involved with us. We would have a good race together!” the 72-year-old said Aerial sports. “He’s got a great brain and he’s very astute.

“I hope it’s not (goodbye) because he has a lot to give to boxing outside the ring.”

Warren stressed that Fury can’t last forever and will have to retire at some point, despite the surprise of his announcement this week.

“Of course he can’t.” No fighter can,” he continued. “At the end of the day you have to face reality. Not that he should retire, I’m saying financially he can, there was nothing in this fight between the two of them (Fury and Oleksandr Usyk ).

“He was a two-time world champion. He did it twice and he did it in the other guy’s backyard.”

Fury has already announced his retirement from boxing, saying in 2022 he was leaving the sport. He then returned but lost his heavyweight title to Oleksandr Usyk last May and then was defeated in the rematch.

Rival promoter Eddie Hearn is not convinced Fury will actually retire. The boxing icon has been heavily linked with a fight against Hearn’s client Anthony Joshua.

“I think if you don’t have the heart for it anymore and you don’t want to compete anymore, then retirement is the best option,” Hearn said.

“It’s obviously disappointing for British fight fans… but if this is the last time we see him, he’s had a great career… I doubt it. But it’s always best to take his retirement to make sure someone is paying you to get out of retirement.

“I just think if I was looking for the right deal I would retire too, but I can’t speak for him.”
