West Allotment Celtic football club ‘on the brink’ as it approaches its centenary

A football club founded almost a century ago is “on the brink of extinction” after losing its main sponsor.

West Allotment Celtic (WACFC), who play at Forest Hall, North Tyneside, said their financial problems had been made worse by low attendances.

The Northern League, where the club plays, granted it a two-week match suspension to try to develop a rescue plan.

Chairman David Dodds said: “We are not alone. Non-league football everywhere is struggling to hold people’s interest.”
