The team was born from the remains of the Coloni F1 team, which qualified for a Grand Prix barely 14 times during its four years of history. Sassetti then concluded an agreement with Simtek to manage a car designed for the 1990 campaign, leading Judd V10 engines under the hood.

The start of Andrea Moda’s campaign was disastrous. The team was expelled from the opening in South Africa after failing to pay the FIA ​​the deposit to join the F1 World Championship. They then missed the second campaign race in Mexico City.

Sassetti had used the Italian duo Alex Caffi and Enrico Bertaggia to drive for the team, but the two pilots were only dismissed in the campaign after criticizing the team leadership. Roberto Moreno and Perry McCarthy replaced them.

However, after the two drivers failed to qualify for races in Brazil and Spain, Sassetti decided to replace McCarthy by Bertaggia, who returned to offer significant sponsorship to the team in difficulty. The FIA ​​blocked this decision, and therefore, the British driver of Andrea Moda was forced to work by acts of deliberate sabotage of the team.

The Brit, which continued to play the stig in Top Gear, was forced to miss the Canadian Grand Prix after Endea Moda did not pay the manufacturer of Judd engines in time, with Sassetti giving a brabham power unit borrowed in Moreno instead.

From this moment, McCarthy’s car was used as a backup for its experienced teammate, and Andrea Moda even sent the Briton on the dry track with wet tires at the British Grand Prix, ruining its race.

With four towers of the remaining season, Andrea Moda had only one start -up Grand Prix with their name – a mechanical retreat for Moreno in the first round of Monaco GP. The team was not allowed to access the Monza Paddock, ending a miserable saga.

The reason for Andrea Moda’s F1 output was predictable Sassetti’s effort. The Italian was arrested in the Paddock of the Belgian Grand Prix for allegedly forged invoices, bringing the FIA ​​to expel the team. The walking -based team was accused of “denigrating the championship”.
